Turning 47 today (and my GIFT for you!)

I am turning 47 today! Woot woot! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

In celebration, not only do I want to share some of the best longevity tips, wellbeing secrets and powerful rituals with you but I also have a very special gift for you (right at the bottom) so you can celebrate and join in on the joy and aliveness I feel today!

I also want to take the time to thank you for being part of my community. It means so much to me that you are here. So, thank you!!! ā¤ļø

Today is a great milestone for me. Not just because I am a little over my mid-forties, but because of what the journey from today onwards means. This birthday is inspiring deep self-reflection more than any other past birthday, and that is bringing up different feelings…

I have been reflecting this whole week (actually this entire year if youā€™ve been following my Best Year Yet email series – opt-in to my newsletter here), and I am feeling more empowered than ever, because at the beginning of the year while in meditation, what came to me is that 2022 is about being broken open for REINVENTION or a second chance to FINALLY live the life I have always wanted on on my own terms.

Which means that all that isnā€™t part of my most authentic truth, has to come up to be released.

And so much has come up!! Lol.

We have been given the opportunity as a collective in the last couple of years to take off all the layers and identities and to step into embodying our truths like never before.

And I took this task seriously! Ha!

So, the questions I have been asking myself as of late are:

āœØWhere am I still not living my most authentic life?

āœØWhere am I still not being fully responsible for my own energy management?

āœØ What makes me come alive that I havenā€™t given myself permission to do?

āœØ What habits, patterns, or beliefs are keeping me in bondage that are ready to go?

āœØ What is most important to me to create this year?

It has been so beautiful to go deep and see where the gaps are. We always have room to let go a little more, make peace with a little more and choose to say yes to life a little more. But I also focused on all the living I have done, and I am celebrating that today too.

I have lived full out and experienced so muchā€¦ traveled the world, wrote a book, created a skincare line inspired by my father’s journey with cancer, been married, lived in Mexico City, Vancouver, Las Vegas, New York City, and now Miami and created Detox Your Life. I am sober and closer to God than I have ever been. And as a bonusā€¦.I feel like I look younger than I ever have! Lol.

As far as where I feel like I am falling short?

āœØ To increase capacity to hold more and to receive more (because of what Spirit revealed to me in #3 below).

āœØ To laugh more, have more fun, go dip in the ocean more and live from the ultimate place of resting in God. (One of my favorite lessons in ACIM is to bring the feeling of feeling safe to let go – lesson 109)

āœØExpand Detox Your Life, Inc into a lifestyle brand that includes products to support our ascension process, quality of life and longevity as they harmonize our physical, emotional and energetic bodies so we can remember the truth of who we are, feel and look our best as we vibrate higher than we ever have!!! Wooohooo!

Aside from those reflections, today on my birthday, I also want to share with you my top longevity, well-being and anti-aging secrets.

These are the main things that Iā€™ve learned in my life that really make a difference in how I look and feel.

As you read through them, youā€™ll find beauty tips, eating tips, exercise tips, and spiritual tips, all of which have helped me to stay as youthful, peaceful, serene and  fulfilled and vibrant as possibleā€¦ā€¦.starting with #1 – THE most important one below. (And keep reading as I have a special gift for you at the bottom)

1. The #1 Secret That Above All Else, Keeps Me Peaceful & Glowing!

For those of you who know me or know about my journey, I was married for 10 years in my 30s. Now that I am turning 47 and not in a serious relationship, I thought I wanted kidsā€¦. but this year, I made peace that Godā€™s plan is ultimately the plan that is best for me. So all in his hands how I get to be a mother (in so many ways) if that is what is in store for me. Unlike when I was younger, even last year, today I have so much deep peace around this because I have a magic solution to my concerns. I’ve learned to trust God and the universe and stop managing the timeline (and what my life ā€œshouldā€ look like by now). I have turned this over which has given me space to know that the best plan is playing out.

When Iā€™m in that space where Iā€™m trusting God, relinquishing control, believing there are no mistakes in this world, and believing the universe will continue to take care of me, like it always has, thatā€™s when I glow. Thatā€™s when I feel my best. Thatā€™s when every issue in my body disappears. Thatā€™s when I look younger than everā€¦.and when I am in the deepest enjoyment of life.

And itā€™s only when we are peaceful, inside and out, that our light and radiant beauty is allowed to shine.

2. Meditate regularly.

Research has shown that meditation may actually slow the rate of cellular aging. Yes! Scientists found that cognitive stress and stress arousal whittle away the length of our ā€œtelomeresā€- those protective caps at the end of chromosomes that have been linked to longevity. Meditation, on the other hand, shifts that stress and may help maintain the health of telomeres.

I know for me, 20-30 minutes of daily meditation helps calm my blemish-prone skin, allows all my face muscles to relax, allows my digestive system to work optimally and I feel connected to my inner guide and so taken care of which allows me to slow down and trust.

Itā€™s like an anti-aging pill because it helps rest my mind, allowing my vital energies to go toward repairing and sustaining my body. I learned how to meditate 17 years ago at the Chopra Center (I took the Primordial Sound Meditation class.) I highly recommend that anyone serious about living your most authentic, vibrant and peaceful life, to make meditation a non-negotiable.

3. Use Sunscreen!

I still remember the day when I was 15 years old and my grandmother took me to buy my first sunscreen and eye cream. She was a gorgeous woman. Even when she passed away in her 80s, her skin was like porcelain.

She always taught me about how damaging to the skin the sun was and spoke about skin cancer prevention. Now we know, through research, that she was right – the sun and its damaging UV rays is the number-one ager of skin (never mind that Melanoma is the leading cancer.)

So one of the best things you will ever do to stay young-looking is to use sunscreen – a SPF of 30 or higher – every day of your life. Inside or out. Make sure itā€™s either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Avoid chemical types like dixoybenzone, oxybenzone, cinnamates, and others, as these can encourage the formation of damaging free radicals, may disrupt hormones, and are damaging to the environment.

My two favorite SPFs are from Mychelle Sunshield SPF 28 and Juice Beauty SPF 30.

4. Exercise and move your body!

Exercise is the fountain of youth. And it also moves charge and energy in your system so it can flow. Studies have shown that exercise, more than most anything you can do, will keep your body and mind healthy and youthful.

I exercise religiously at least three times a week. My 4 favorite types of movement are Vinyasa yoga, running by the water (now that I can run outside after my Achilles surgery and I am recovered), dancing and walking outside. Yoga reduces stress for me, oxygenates my body and skin – which is hugely anti-aging on its own. All the deep breathing helps to detoxify my body, brings my skin a glow, gives me more energy and helps regulate my nervous system. It also helps boost brainpower and takes me out of my head and back into my body. I once heard that thinking too much ages us! I couldnā€™t agree moreā€¦ we can literally age with all the attack thoughts and judgments rubbing through our self-talk!

As for running, I do that out in nature at least once a week. Getting out among nature and water has shown in studies to help reduce the stress hormones wreaking havoc in our bodies, and I find it really allows me to calm myself and feel more refreshed and grounded when I return.

5. Eat an anti-inflammatory, high-vibe diet.

One of the main culprits in skin aging is inflammation. While inflammation in a wound is a good thing as it shows us the immune system is doing its work, many Americans are now walking around with chronic inflammation going on inside their bodies. Scientists think that this is one of the reasons weā€™re suffering from heart disease, cancer, and other modern-day killers.

Eating an unhealthy diet exacerbates inflammation. A 2010 study, for example, found that the typical high-fat, high-salt, high-sugar North American Diet increases inflammatory markers in the blood.

We can eat foods, however, that calm and cool that inflammation, which not only benefits our health as a whole, but can also improve the appearance of our skin. The two foods that I consume almost daily that I have seen the most remarkable difference on my skin (and clear mind) are The Medical Mediums Raw Spinach Soup and my daily morning Green veggie juice. I also stay completely away from sugar, dairy, gluten, anything processed, and alcohol and all from a place of love. I call the way I eat ā€œeating for a purpose, vibration and energyā€. When you flip the script like that your choices will change.

6. Having a squad that is also advised by Spirit and that you can have fun and laugh with!!

Did you know that while men live longer if theyā€™re married, women live longer if they have a good group of supportive sisterhood? (according to one study)

My squad of soul sisters are my lifesavers and lifelines. I have found that there is nothing that helps you shift from fear or a trigger to feeling connected, alive and back in the flow than connecting to sisters. Itā€™s medicine!!

All of us need a supportive circle of sisters (or brothers) to support us through our ups and downs. Turns out that this is another anti-aging secret. An Australian study, for example, found that women with more friends lived 22 percent longer than women with few friends.

7. Live out your purpose.

Did you know that those who have a strong sense of purpose in their lives live longer, feel most alive and fulfilled and lead healthier lives? Itā€™s been shown in scientific studies. Those who believed their lives had a sense of meaning and direction were far less likely to suffer from heart disease and other illnesses and were actually found to live longer than those who didnā€™t feel their lives were worthwhile.

I can say from experience that thereā€™s nothing more fulfilling than doing purpose-driven work. For me, it started after my father passed away. I felt a strong desire to give back and to dedicate my work to his legacy. I started the Cinco Vidas blog, wrote my book When Cancer Hits, and created CV Skinlabs. Then came Detox Your Life, and one thing I can say for sure on my 47th birthday, is that I have never felt more fulfilled and on purpose. If it were all said and done tomorrow, I would be okay because I feel so fortunate to get to live a purpose driven life.

8. Have faith.

And finally, Iā€™ve saved the best one for last.

As I mentioned at the very beginning, my #1 secret for staying youthful, peaceful and vibrant is having full trust in life moment by moment. Itā€™s not always easy especially when we get triggered or if we are being asked to go into the unknown. However, if I find myself falling back into the fear trap, I practice shifting back into trust, and my stress disappears. It is imperative to have tools and practices to bring you back to center.

Part of what I do every morning before meditation is to get on my knees and pray. I ask for strength and courage to trust that no matter what things may look like from the outside, everything is unfolding as it should. I pray for the willingness to do the things I cannot do or to be granted the desire to do what I know I must do. I pray that Iā€™ll be filled with love, kindness and patience for everything and everyone. I pray to be changed into a person that can love and that can receive all the goodness. Then I let go a little bit more that day and let God in a little more.

This practice puts my body at ease immediately. It connects me to the Source of it all. I can just feel it lowering all my stress hormone levels and allowing my body to operate as it should, without having to deal with all the stress overload that ā€œitā€™s all up to meā€.

After I complete my prayers and my meditation, I then start my day from there. From that realm. Not the realm of fear. I am able to be present with what is and much more easily access that divine energy in the universe thatā€™s available to us all. Itā€™s so much better than operating from the ego mind, which most always causes stress, chaos, bad decisions and poor health!
